WindWanderers Social Day - BBQ and Goat Island - Sunday 17th July

WindWanderers Social Day - BBQ and Goat Island - Sunday 17th July

Cotton Tree - Near Jetty

Hi Folks,

We are going to have a  winter social day and catch up over a BBQ (to keep warm) and sail/paddle around Goat Island at Cotton Tree.

For anyone that hasn't been to Cotton Tree it's a great location for a more social focused meet up with plenty of things to do for partners and children. It is also a safe river location with good options for paddling and sailing around Goat Island. We will probably have a fun event sail or paddle around Goat Island during the day.

Partners and children are welcome to come along and join in. If your thinking of coming feel free to let us know because it can be tricky to cater for these days so getting a heads up on how many might be there is always appreciated.

Start time will be 10am and will normally finish up by mid afternoon. See you there.

Cheers

Burrum Windfest - Thankyou

Burrum Windfest - Thankyou

Hi Folks, This is a brief shout out to name names of folks that meant Windfest could run and was a success this year. A full report will be on our website and in the next edition of WindSurf Magazine.

Firstly I would like to acknowledge Justin Boland and Kellie Tusler who are previous organisers of this event and have provided the club a legacy to run the event this year. Thankyou.

In no particular order the following people have contributed tirelessly in the last few weeks.

Ray Wilson and Geoff Ringe kept things running everyday from sun up to sun down and especially Friday night for the charity event at his place which raised much needed funds for Fighting Childhood Cancer through the Braver Stronger Smarter foundation. Also Rays wife and friends and the Burrum community who together contributed to make Friday night something special. And Richie Fish for the entertainment. And Brian for the auctioning work. We will talk more about this in detail. Thankyou to all.

Anne Lewis, the Secretary and Morgan Taylor, the Treasure have been fantastic in planning the event. Anne completed most of the necessary documentation, notice of race, to ensure it was managed on the course. Thankyou.

Michael Jones has worked with many sponsors to bring together all the fantastic prizes and has kept a steady stream of updates flowing leading up to and during the event to keep everyone informed. Thankyou.

Dylan Tusler for the amazing KA72 to support the event. The KA72 platform brought a new level of sophistication and dazzle to the event this year. Also all the online registration system and management set up by Dylan. Plenty many more IT bits and bobs we take for granted. Thankyou.

Kellie Tusler with her experience at the event kept allot of competitors updated with knowledge of how the event runs and organised the trophies. Thankyou. Russel Witt, Tony Matta and the Lake Cootharaba Sailing pulled together the equipment and ran the coarse racing for the high tide sailors and did a fanatic job. Thankyou.

Vando for utilising his place for HQ sign on/off, briefings and BBQ. You are a champion in all sense of word. Thankyou. Graham from Hervey Bay stand up paddle for the Saturday SUP event at lions park which saw a huge turn out from the community and competitors in a fun SUP race. We hope to see you back next year. Graham and partner are also strongly behind the Braver Stonger Smarter foundation raising funds for children with cancer. Thankyou.

The local volunteer marine for keeping an eye on us during the event. The local outrigger community for put on the big Wednesday paddle and the bowls club for the Mid week barefoot bowls and dinner. Thankyou.

Julia for the great pictures and others like John and Dave which took some sweet shots during the week. Thankyou. All our sponsors, the list is endless and we will address that with special acknowledgment in a separate communication.

Thankyou to all the competitors, because of you the event was bigger and better this year and we hope to see you all back next year.

And finally and very importantly OUR SPONSORS

The next club social day is due to be scheduled and is being extended to friends, family and the boarder community to allow them the opportunity to come and try Windsurfing. We have partnered with the Lake Cootharaba sailiing club and have access to utilize there equipment for the day. We have equipment which will suit ages form 4 upwards.

As per our other social days we will have the coffee and tea on in the morning and then a BBQ lunch around 1pm

If you are interested in helping to assist people learning or think you may want to come and try please contact the president of the club so we can get the most out of the day.

Golden Beach ( Between Earnshaw St and Mclean St ) - Caloundra

Hi WindWanderers, we moved the Social Day from Mooloolaba to Golden Beach because the venue caters for all abilities and it should have more parking availability. Club Social Day Sunday 30th August - BBQ and Sailing

Club Social Day Sunday 30th August - BBQ and Sailing

Lake Weyba

Hello WindWanderer members,

With the spring not to far away we thought it would be a good opportunity to get together at a destination and have a BBQ and a sail.  This social day is intended to be the first of a monthly arrangement of social days which will also go to other locations. So stay tuned for more on this! Lake Weyba for those that don't know is a quite location with shallow water and suits all from, advanced sailors to families with children, so everyone is welcome. It has a large grassed area to rig up on and plenty of shade to enjoy kicking back. BYO chair is a good idea though. So we hope to see you there for a BBQ which will be provided by the WindWanderers.

Wind Wanderers at the Nationals

Well, it was a great week for Windsurfing in Queensland. Not everyone might be aware of this yet, but every WindWanderer who went to Green Island this year for the Nationals came away with at least one trophy. (Including me!)

I don't know if there is another club in Australia with that record.

Not only did WindWanderers take six trophies home this year, but we also have an Australian Masters Champion in Michael Corkeron. Well done Michael!

The Nationals at Green Island are going from strength to strength, and getting better every year. I'd love to see more WindWanderers there again next year.
