It's just about the end of the club financial year, so it is time to think about renewing membership for next year.

To encourage renewals, we are locking next year's membership to this year's price for those who renew prior to 30 June 2013.

From the 1st of July it is quite likely that membership prices will rise slightly, as there is likely to be an increase in our insurance premiums. The club will absorb this increase for anyone who renews early.

For those who are not already club members, we've introduced a special "14 month" rate of membership, which makes you a member for the rest of this year, and all of next year. This will be attractive to anyone who is planning on racing this financial year, or wants to take part in the next season of our GPS speed competition, which officially kicks off today.

At first glance, the 14 month rate looks relatively expensive, but it covers two year's worth of insurance premiums, with very little of the extra money going to the club itself.

A big thanks to Dieter from Sunshine Coast Sailboards for the generous Christmas prizes he donated to the club and also to Pete from Caloundra Wind and Surf for prizes and taking the time to make the drive to Hervey Bay again towing your trailer loaded with the beginner boards and also helping with the lessons.

We didn't get as many show up this time for lessons but the few that did come along had perfect conditions with a light northerly onshore wind, warm water and sunshine.

For those of you who braved the gale force winds and got out on the water well done to you! And to those that heard our radio adverts about the lessons, thanks for coming along, the wind however, was not suitable for teaching so we had to postpone the lessons. Unfortunately I was unwell and wasn't able to make it up to the lake.  As there wasn't a lot of interest on the day in racing and with winds gusting over 30 knots in the afternoon it was decided not to run any slalom racing.  We were hoping to try out the new club banner, but with the amount of wind it may have ended up in two pieces! Thanks to all those who came along to support the club and again I hope you had a great sail.  Lets hope we can make it third time lucky in January!  Remember if you had a GPS on you can still post your times on your GPS comp.  I noticed there are already quite a few good numbers appearing from 11 November.  Check out the great speeds posted from Burrum Heads.

Regards

Sunday 7 October was the date for our first Windwanderers event at Lake Cootharaba.  With a strong wind warning forecast I was a little concerned we would have too much wind for the scheduled beginner lessons and possibly too much for our first race!  However we ended up with perfect conditions for the beginners and just enough late in the day for everyone to get out on the big kit.
